Using classic Outlook for Windows in business environments
If the folder is missing after a rename in classic Outlook for Windows, use these checks:
- Make sure the Folder Pane is visible.
- Go to View > Layout > Folder Pane > Normal.
- If the pane is minimized, expand it by selecting the > on the side of the window.
- If this is an IMAP account in Outlook 2013 and the folder was a subfolder of Inbox, this can be a known issue.
- Symptoms can include messages moving from Inbox into the renamed folder, the old folder name reappearing, and a sync error in Sync Issues such as
800CCCD2-0-0-733. - The documented workaround is to rename Inbox subfolders by using webmail instead of Outlook.

- If the folder still cannot be found, check the folder path from Outlook.
- In the Navigation Pane, right-click the email account.
- Select Data File Properties.
- In the Outlook Today dialog, on the General tab, select Folder Size.
- Look for the missing folder in the folder list, then use that path to locate it in Outlook and drag it back if needed.
- If messages are still found by search but the folder is not visible, the folder may still exist but be hidden in the pane. Showing the full folder list usually resolves that.
