If the PC was set up with a misspelled Microsoft account and that account cannot be accessed, the supported way to start over is to reset the PC and set up Windows again with the correct account.
Warning: choosing Remove everything erases personal files, apps, and settings on the device.
Steps from the sign-in screen:
- On the Windows sign-in screen, press and hold Shift.
- Select Power > Restart.
- After restart, select Troubleshoot > Reset this PC.
- Choose Remove everything.
- Choose Local reinstall or follow the available reset prompts.
- Complete setup again and sign in with the correct Microsoft account.
If the reset asks for a BitLocker recovery key, the device is encrypted and the key is required to continue.
If access to Windows is still possible with a local account, Windows also supports switching account types in Settings > Accounts > Your info:
- Sign in with a Microsoft account instead if currently using a local account
- Sign in with a local account instead if currently using a Microsoft account
For sign-in problems, Microsoft also provides the Sign-in helper.
