Trying to set up a gmail account as an alias to my outlook account. I also want all emails sent to the gmail account to appear as well in my outlook account.

Hello,

You can certainly add a gmail address as an "alias" for your Microsoft account. However, an alias is just a symbolic identifier/username. It doesn't mean Microsoft account can now receive emails on Gmail's behalf. It doesn't work that way.

To add the alias, sign into your personal account via this link: https://account.live.com?

Go to Your Info > Sign in preference, Add an alias.

Add existing: this will allow you to add a 3rd party email address, such as yahoo, gmail, as long as they are not already associated with another Microsoft account.

Once added, make this new alias your primary alias if you want it to be primary.

Outlook.com is the home mail box for alias using Microsoft's native domains only, such as outlook.com, hotmail.com, msn.com, live.com. It is not an email client app that can host other email service provider. So it cannot be used to check Gmail.

Thank you. Is there a hotmail/outlook account that I can create that will send emails to both hotmail/outlook

accounts simultaneously?

No, unfortunately not simultaneously.

You can use the Create new alias option to create an outlook.com alias, but each outlook.com/hotmail.com alias is their own address, they don't "talk" to each other.

A Gmail address can be added to a Microsoft account as an alias, which means it can be used to sign in to that Microsoft account. That does not automatically bring Gmail messages into Outlook.com.

To get Gmail messages to appear in Outlook, the Gmail account must be added separately as an email account.

For Outlook.com and Microsoft cloud connection scenarios, Gmail also needs these settings enabled in Gmail:

In Gmail, go to Settings > Forwarding and POP/IMAP.
Turn on Enable IMAP.
Save changes.
In Settings > Labels, make sure Show in IMAP is enabled for folders such as Inbox, Sent Mail, Trash, and All Mail.

If adding Gmail in Outlook for Windows, the supported steps are:

Open Outlook.
Select File > Add Account.
Enter the Gmail address and select Connect.
If prompted, enter the Gmail password.
Review the statement and select Allow > Done.
Restart Outlook.
The Gmail mailbox should then appear in the folder pane.

If the goal is only to change the Microsoft account sign-in name, add the Gmail address as an alias from the Microsoft account Edit account info page, then follow the prompts to add the email address.
