Outlook on old iPhone works, Outlook and brand new iPhone will not allow me to log in

Hi,

I had an iphone 12 i now have an iphone 17 promax. Outlook still works on the old one but i cannot log into Outlook on my new phone. At every point of trying I am asked to go to Authenticator which gives me an 8 digit code when 6 digits are needed, or Authenticator should just allow me to click allow. I have been in Microsoft chat but I was given a link to use in app support, I can't get into the app. I was then given a link to get to the Outlook support team, I cannot get to them because I am required to put in a code from Authenticator.......same circle I am going round. It is not helped by me not being the most tech savvy person. Any help will be gratefully received. I wish I could just speak to the right human being at Microsoft.

What exact error message do you see when trying to to sign in?

Also, a new device or location can trigger extra security checks, so this is expected, but the verification should still work. Microsoft temporarily blocks further attempts to protect the account.

The only option for now is to wait for the full 24 to 48 hours for the lockout to clear completely.

Try not to attempt signing in during this time, as doing so will reset the waiting period back to zero. Once the time has fully passed, you should be able to sign in again without needing to reset your password.

Thank you John. Unfortunately, I have been trying to do this for several weeks now, with breaks along the way. I try to add my account to Outlook, I get taken into Authenticator where I would expect to find a code generated, but Authenticator needs a code, if I click get codes, the code brought up is 8 digits instead of 6. A circle I go round no matter how I approach this. I fall between Apple and Microsoft too which does not help. Thank you anyway John, thank you for taking the time.

Thank you for letting me know.

If you have the Microsoft Authenticator app, please try signing in again.

When prompted for verification, click "Other ways to sign in", then select "Approve sign-in with a mobile app".

Hi John, when I press other ways to sign in, i get the choices: approve a request on my Microsoft Authenticator app

or

Use a verification code

The first gives me an error code 50089

the second just returns me to Authenticator where it is expecting me to enter a code

Again, John.......thank you so much for taking the time. I may consider throwing the phone at the wall to see if that works lol

Thanks, that helps narrow it down.

Since Outlook still works on your old iPhone, could you check the old phone for me?

Is Microsoft Authenticator still installed on the old iPhone? If so, does your Microsoft account appear there?
When you try signing in on the new iPhone and choose "Approve a request on my Microsoft Authenticator app", does an approval request appear on the old iPhone?

It may be that Authenticator is still registered to the old phone rather than the new one.

yes, Authenticator is still on my old phone and my MS account appears

it doesn't unoftunately, it is something I tried today without success.

I think I am going to turn off the old phone, delete Outlook & Authenticator from my new phone, then wait over 48 hours to install them again, to see if your idea works. I was thinking back and I don't think I can be absolutely sure I went 48 hours without trying. I will let you know what happens. Thank you for helping John, I very much appreciate it.

Please do not delete Microsoft Authenticator from the old iPhone yet.

Since your Microsoft account still appears there, it may still be the phone registered for verification.

You can turn the old phone off, remove Outlook and Authenticator from the new phone, and then leave the account alone for the full 48 hours. Try not to make any sign-in attempts during that time.

After the 48 hours, install Outlook again first and try signing in. Let me know exactly what happens and whether you still get error 50089.
