Korean Attachment Filenames Decomposed in Outlook for Mac — Fix Timeline Request

Hello,

When I send attachments with Korean filenames using the Outlook for Mac app, recipients see the Korean characters separated into individual consonants and vowels.

The issue persists even after I normalize the filenames to Unicode NFC before attaching and sending the files. However, the filenames display correctly when I send them through Outlook on the web.

Since I need to retain Korean filenames for work, renaming the files in English is not a practical solution.

Could you please clarify the following?

Is Microsoft aware of this issue, and is a fix currently in progress?

Is there an expected release date or a specific Outlook version that will include the fix?

Is there an official workaround that preserves Korean filenames when sending attachments from Outlook for Mac?

Since NFC normalization does not resolve the issue, I would appreciate an explanation of the cause and a concrete update on the fix timeline, rather than a suggestion to rename the files.

    To better understand the issue and determine whether it may be related to a specific Outlook or macOS version, could you please confirm:

    • New Outlook for Mac version/build (Outlook > About Outlook)
    • macOS version (Apple icon> About This Mac)
    • Did the issue start after a recent update to macOS or Microsoft 365/Office?

    I tested New Outlook for Mac version 16.112.2, and the Korean filename was preserved correctly when I sent the attachment. This suggests that the behavior may be version-specific.

    If you are currently using a different Outlook build, I recommend testing with version 16.112.2:

    -First, uninstall your current version of Microsoft 365/Office for Mac.

    -Download and install Office for Mac version 16.112.2 from Update history for Office for Mac

    -After installation, open an Office application and go to Help > Check for Updates.

    -Uncheck “Automatically keep Microsoft Apps up to date” so that the application does not automatically update to a newer build while you are testing.

    -Open New Outlook for Mac and send the same attachment with the Korean filename.

    -Check whether the recipient still sees the Korean characters separated into individual consonants and vowels.

    If the filename is preserved correctly in 16.112.2 but the issue occurs in your current build, that would be useful evidence that the issue may have been introduced by a newer Outlook update.

    To make sure this issue reaches Microsoft Support and can be properly investigated, I recommend contacting your IT administrator and asking them to submit a support request with Microsoft in Microsoft 365 admin center.
