A Microsoft file hosting and synchronization service.
For a Microsoft 365 Family subscription, each person gets 1 TB of storage. If OneDrive shows only 19.2 GB used but still says storage is exceeded, the most common causes are:
- OneDrive is signed in with a different Microsoft account than the one that has the Family storage.
- The storage allocation has not refreshed yet.
- The OneDrive sync app has a configuration issue.
Try this in order:
- Confirm the correct account has the subscription
- Go to the Microsoft account services page and verify that Microsoft 365 Family is active for the same Microsoft account used in OneDrive.
- If the Family invitation was recently accepted, storage updates can take up to 2 hours to appear. In some cases after plan changes, updates can take 24 to 48 hours.
- Check OneDrive storage online
- Sign in to OneDrive on the web with the same Microsoft account.
- Open Manage your OneDrive storage or Storage metrics and confirm the quota shown there.
- Also check whether a shared folder has pushed the account over quota.
- Unlink and relink OneDrive on Windows
- Select the OneDrive cloud icon in the Windows taskbar notification area.
- Select Help & Settings.
- Select Settings.
- Open the Account tab.
- Select Unlink this PC.
- Confirm the unlink.
- Sign in again with the Microsoft account that has the Microsoft 365 Family storage.
- If the warning remains, reset OneDrive
- Resetting OneDrive clears app settings and forces a full sync.
- This can resolve configuration issues, but OneDrive will run a full sync after the reset.
- If the account is frozen or still over quota after cleanup or relinking
- Delete files or buy more storage if the account is actually over quota.
- Changes can take up to 2 hours to apply.
- If the account is still frozen after 4 hours, contact support.
What happens while this issue is active:
- New files cannot be uploaded, edited, or synced.
- Existing files remain, but may be read-only.
- If the account truly stays over quota for long enough, OneDrive can be frozen and later files may be deleted.
