A frozen OneDrive account usually means the account is still seen as over quota or the storage change has not applied to the same Microsoft account.
Try this in order:
- Confirm the correct account
Sign in with the exact Microsoft account that received the frozen message. If there are multiple Microsoft accounts, the extra storage may be attached to a different one.
- Check storage directly in OneDrive
Open Manage your OneDrive storage and verify whether the paid storage is shown on that same account. If the account is frozen because of storage, getting back under quota is required before access is restored.
- Free up space or verify the upgrade
If storage still shows as full, delete files and empty the Recycle Bin, or confirm that the subscription/extra storage is active on the same account. OneDrive states that files remain available but are read-only until the account is back under quota.
- Wait for the quota change to apply
After deleting files or buying more storage, changes can take up to 2 hours to apply. If purchased storage is not visible yet, storage updates can take up to 24 hours to appear.
- If purchased storage still is not recognized after 24 hours
Unlink and relink OneDrive on the PC, then check again:
- Select the OneDrive cloud icon
- Open Settings
- Go to Account
- Select Unlink this PC
- Sign in again with the same Microsoft account
- If the account is still frozen after 4 hours once storage is correct
Contact Microsoft support.
Important effects of a frozen account:
- New files cannot be uploaded, edited, or synced.
- Existing files remain but are read-only.
- If the account stays over quota for 6 months, OneDrive and its files may be deleted and are then non-recoverable.
If the warning says files will be erased on a date, sign in before that date and make sure the account is under its storage limit.
