Using Outlook for Android for personal email and calendar management
If emails can be found by search but do not appear in the Inbox, the most likely causes are a filtered view, Focused Inbox placement, or a sync/cache issue.
Try these fixes in order:
- Check whether the Inbox view is filtering messages
In Outlook for Windows:
- Open Inbox.
- Go to View > View Settings > Filter.
- Review the Tasks, More Choices, and Advanced tabs for anything that could hide messages, such as date, read/unread status, sender, keywords, importance, or size.
- Remove any filter that should not be there.
- Check Focused Inbox / Other tab
If Focused Inbox is enabled, messages may be landing in Other instead of Focused.
- Open Outlook.com or the Outlook app.
- Check the Other tab.
- If the message is there, move it to Focused inbox.
- Check Junk Email
Messages may be incorrectly marked as junk.
- Open the Junk Email folder.
- If the message is there, mark it as Not junk or move it back to Inbox.
- On Outlook for iOS or Android, open Junk Email, select the message, and choose Move to Inbox.
- If using Outlook desktop in Cached mode, clear the Inbox offline items and resync
This helps when messages exist in the mailbox but do not appear in the cached Inbox.
- Right-click Inbox > Properties.
- On the General tab, select Clear Offline Items.
- Confirm removal from the .ost file.
- Select OK.
- Select the Inbox in the Navigation Pane and press Shift+F9 to resynchronize.
- Start Outlook with the
/cleanipsswitch This can clear messages stuck in Outlook’s incoming item processing pipeline.- Exit Outlook.
- Select Start > Run.
- Run:
Outlook.exe /cleanips
If the issue is only in the Inbox view and search still finds the messages, checking and clearing the Inbox view filter is usually the first fix to try.
