Processes in Microsoft 365 for setting up Office apps, redeeming product keys, and activating licenses.
For a personal Microsoft account, the supported next steps are:
- Try signing in again at https://account.microsoft.com. If the account is still within its 30-day or 60-day grace period, entering the security code reopens it.
- If the code is being sent to a verification address that is not accessible, use the Sign-in Helper. This is the recommended path when the sign-in method is not working or the account is reported as not found.
- If the recovery form was already submitted and no result arrived, submit it again and check the inbox, junk, and spam folders of the working contact email used on the form. Microsoft states recovery results are sent to that working email within 24 hours.
- The recovery form can be retried up to two times per day. To improve the chance of success, complete it from a device and location previously used with the account.
- If two-step verification is turned on and none of the alternate verification methods are accessible, the account cannot be recovered through support. Support agents cannot send password reset links or change account details.
- If the account was closed and the grace period has already passed, it can no longer be reopened. If the account has not been signed in to for more than two years, it may have been deleted and also cannot be reopened.
- If the issue continues, use Contact Microsoft Support. Support can route the case, but they cannot bypass identity verification or manually change account details.
