A Microsoft file hosting and synchronization service.
Since Personal Vault opens in Microsoft Edge on the same PC and on Android, the Vault itself and the account authentication are working. The failure is most likely specific to Chrome’s browser session or cached site data.
Try this in order:
- Open Chrome in Incognito mode and sign in to OneDrive, then try opening Personal Vault.
- If Personal Vault opens there, the issue is with Chrome’s cached data or session state.
- Clear Chrome’s browser cache, then sign in again and retry Personal Vault.
- This is the recommended next step when access works in a privacy mode but fails in the normal browser session.
- If the Vault opens but shows that it is not up to date, unlock Personal Vault, close any files stored in it, and wait for sync to complete before locking it again.
- If there are many large files, increase the Personal Vault auto-lock time in OneDrive by selecting Settings from the menu, then Account, then changing the Personal Vault auto-lock time.
- Make sure the OneDrive app is up to date on the PC.
- If sign-in or access still fails after clearing Chrome cache, check whether a firewall, VPN configuration, or internet provider is interfering with OneDrive access.
What the error means in this case:
- “Unknown render failure” is consistent with the browser failing to properly load the Personal Vault page after authentication, not with a general OneDrive outage for the account, because access still works in Edge and on Android.
If Chrome still cannot open Personal Vault after Incognito mode and cache clearing, use Edge as a workaround and contact Microsoft Support for the browser-specific failure.
