Hello,

I recently purchased a new desktop computer where Microsoft Office was pre-installed by the vendor. I would like to verify whether this is a genuine, properly licensed copy of Office.

Here are the activation details from my system (obtained via ospp.vbs /dstatus):

  • Product ID: 00502-66847-39573-AA914
  • SKU ID: 84e442c0-87a0-49b5-bcd1-b161b0b35e4b
  • License Name: Office 24, Office24ProPlus2024VL_MAK_AE2 edition
  • License Description: Office 24, RETAIL(MAK) channel
  • License Status: LICENSED
  • Last 5 characters of product key: 332W3

I am concerned because this license shows a VL_MAK (Volume License MAK) channel combined with a "RETAIL" description, which seems unusual for an individually purchased copy. I did not purchase this through any Volume Licensing Agreement myself.

Could you please confirm:

  1. Whether this Product ID / SKU ID corresponds to a legitimately issued license
  2. Whether this is meant for individual/retail use or organizational volume licensing
  3. What steps I should take if this is not a genuine license

I am also planning to purchase Office licenses for 21 desktop computers for my office and want to ensure I go through the correct, legitimate purchasing channel this time.

Thank you for your help.

Office Pro Plus 2024 is a volume licence version of Office used by large organizations, that is not a correct consumer licence, if you purchased that licence as a private user, then that licence is not correct, that type of licence can only be used by an organization that has a volume licence agreement with Microsoft and while the licence may initially activate, it would later deactivate and you will not be able to reactivate the Office licence, the best option would be to contact the retailer to get a refund for that licence
