Microsoft Lists — "Loading chunk 55 failed" / Unknown render failure, started around Aug 21 build

We've started seeing the following error when opening Microsoft Lists, beginning around August 21, 2026:

Sorry, something went wrong

Unknown render failure.

Loading chunk 55 failed. (error: https://res-1.public.onecdn.static.microsoft/files/odsp-web-prod_2026-08-21.008/listsenterprise/55.js)

Some observations:

  • This did not happen before around August 21. It started roughly at the same time as the build referenced in the failing URL (odsp-web-prod_2026-08-21.008).
  • We've confirmed this happens in both Firefox and Edge, which suggests it's not browser-specific.
  • A simple page reload (F5) usually does not fix it.
  • Fully closing and reopening the browser does fix it, but only temporarily — the error tends to come back if the Lists tab is left open for an extended period.
  • We have not yet confirmed whether clearing the browser cache resolves it any more effectively than simply reopening the browser.

Questions:

  1. Is this a known issue tied to a recent Lists/SharePoint (odsp-web) deployment? Are other tenants reporting the same chunk-loading failure around this build/date?
  2. Since this reproduces across browsers, is this a known server-side/CDN issue (e.g., asset retention policy after a new deploy) rather than a client-side caching issue?
  3. Is there a recommended client-side workaround beyond closing and reopening the browser?
  4. Is there an ETA or tracking item for a fix, if this is a known regression on Microsoft's side?

Any guidance would be appreciated.

    Hi KK,
Thank you for posting question to Microsoft Q&A Forum.

Based on the available information, my assessment is that this does not currently point to an obvious configuration issue. Potential causes could include:

    • Browser cache and service-worker version mismatches.
    • CDN asset synchronization issues.
    • Tenant-specific service regressions.
    • A backend issue introduced during a recent SharePoint Online / Microsoft Lists deployment.

As an Microsoft's external staff, I cannot validate Microsoft's internal service telemetry. Since I am unable to reproduce the issue in my own environment and the behavior involves Microsoft-hosted application components, I recommend treating this as a potential service-side issue until proven otherwise.

    Recommended Validation

    Before escalation, please verify:

    1. Whether the issue occurs in an InPrivate/Incognito browser session.
    2. Whether clearing browser cache and site data changes the behavior.
    3. Whether the issue affects only specific lists or all Microsoft Lists.
    4. Whether the issue occurs for multiple users.
    5. Browser Developer Tools (F12) Console and Network logs during reproduction.
    6. HAR trace capture while reproducing the issue.

    Recommendation to Contact Microsoft Support

If the issue persists after the above validation, I recommend opening a Microsoft Support request so that the SharePoint Online / Microsoft Lists engineering team can review backend telemetry and deployment records.

When opening the case, please provide:

    • Exact error message.
    • Screenshot of the failure.
    • Approximate timestamps of occurrence.
    • HAR trace.
    • Browser Console (F12) logs.
    • Affected tenant information.
    • The specific JavaScript asset URL reported in the error.

Or you can change the "Release preferences" settings and test for temporary work around.
