Thanks for this BUT I just cannot access the account as it was an old account and I cannot log in anymore. I just don't know how to stop the billing if I don't have the account details. My bank asks that only Microsoft cancel this.

If the old account cannot be accessed, use these supported paths:

  1. Investigate the charge from the payment side. Go to the Manage your payments page in the Microsoft account dashboard and select Investigate. This is the recommended path for unrecognized or unknown Microsoft charges.
  2. Check whether the charge is tied to a different Microsoft account. A common reason is signing in with the wrong Microsoft account. Also check whether a family member used the payment card for a Microsoft purchase.
  3. Try account recovery if the subscription belongs to an old Microsoft personal account. Use the Microsoft account recovery and sign-in help options to regain access, then cancel or turn off recurring billing from Services & subscriptions.
  4. If the subscription was bought through a third party, cancel it there instead. If it was purchased from a retailer, Google Play, or the Apple App Store, billing and cancellation must be handled with that provider.
  5. If Microsoft support is required, use guided support. Go to Contact Microsoft Support, enter the problem, select Get Help, and then Contact Support.

Relevant billing notes:

  • If Turn on recurring billing is shown, recurring billing is already off and the subscription will expire on the shown date.
  • If there is a past-due or overdue amount, cancellation is blocked until that amount is paid.
  • If a charge happened after cancellation, one documented reason is cancelling too close to the billing date; cancellations must be more than 2 days before the billing date.
