If the Microsoft 365 installer is showing a message that macOS 11 (Big Sur) or later is required, it means your Mac is currently running an older version of macOS that is not supported by the latest Microsoft 365 apps.

You can check your macOS version by selecting Apple menu > About This Mac.

If your Mac supports an upgrade to macOS 11 or later, I recommend updating macOS first and then downloading Microsoft 365 again.

If your Mac cannot be upgraded to macOS 11 or later because of hardware limitations, unfortunately the current version of Microsoft 365 cannot be installed on that device.

In that case, you can still access Microsoft apps through the web browser using:

• Log in to https://www.office.com
• Go to More apps

If you can't upgrade the operating system on your Mac, you won't be able to run Microsoft Office. See https://www.brandwares.com/bestpractices/2023/03/most-recent-office-you-can-run-best-practices/ . The requirement is macOS 12 or later and an Office product which licenses version 16.83 or later (Microsoft 365 subscriptions will meet the latter requirement).

As an alternative, you can use LibreOffice which is open source software. Compatibility with Microsoft Office formats is generally good.
