For Outlook on iPhone with a Gmail account, repeated Google sign-in prompts are commonly addressed by checking these items:

    1. Update Outlook for iOS to the latest version. Repeated password prompts can happen after security standards in the app are updated.
    2. Make sure Gmail IMAP is enabled:
      • Open Gmail in a browser.
      • Go to Settings > Forwarding and POP/IMAP.
      • Under IMAP Access, select Enable IMAP.
      • Select Save Changes.
    3. Remove and add the Gmail account again in Outlook for iOS:
      • In Outlook, tap the account icon.
      • Tap Settings.
      • Tap Add Account > Add an Email account.
      • Enter the Gmail address.
      • If Outlook does not automatically detect Google, tap Google on the account setup page and then sign in.
    4. If Google two-step verification is enabled, complete the Google verification screen when it appears. Outlook for Android and iOS supports Gmail two-step authentication / verification.
    5. If the issue continues during Google verification, use Google’s two-step verification help page: this Google page.
    6. If the problem is with a Microsoft account in Outlook mobile instead of Gmail, use the Microsoft sign-in helper tool: Start.

    Hello George Somerville,

I understand Outlook on your iPhone keeps asking you to sign in to your Gmail account.

Could you clarify what happens after you complete the Google sign-in and select Allow?

    • Does Gmail then send and receive normally in Outlook, but the sign-in prompt returns later?
    • Or does Outlook immediately ask you to sign in again without ever adding the account successfully?

That distinction should help narrow down whether this is an account setup issue or a recurring authentication issue.

To access your GMail you must be signed in to your Google account. An Android phone (like my Samsung) will keep you signed in to your Google account. Apple doesn't care about that.

You really should get your GMail from the GMail app, which always works.

It's not that you can't get your GMail through Outlook - of course you can - it's just that Google and Microsoft have no motivation to ensure that their service works perfectly (or at all) on the other's software. Why would I want to make my email service work smoothly and trouble-free on my arch-competitor's software? And in your case: You have a third party's software to contend with - iOS - so you're really giving yourself a challenge.

The repeated Google sign-in prompts in Outlook for iPhone are usually related to the Google authentication/session rather than the Gmail password itself.

I would recommend the following steps:

    1. Make sure Outlook for iOS is updated to the latest version.
    2. In Outlook, remove the Gmail account if it has already been added unsuccessfully.
    3. In your Google Account, review the third-party connections/security settings and remove an old or incomplete Microsoft/Outlook connection if one is present.
    4. Restart Outlook and select Add Account → Add Email Account → Google.
    5. Complete the Google sign-in and any two-step verification.
    6. When Google asks whether to allow Outlook/Microsoft access, select Allow.
    7. Return to Outlook and check whether Gmail can send and receive mail normally.

If Outlook immediately asks for Google authentication again, or the account is never added successfully, this suggests that the OAuth authentication/session is not being retained correctly. In that situation, repeatedly entering the Gmail password or changing the Gmail password is unlikely to solve the problem.

Also, enabling IMAP should not be considered the first troubleshooting step for this specific Outlook for iOS OAuth sign-in problem. The important diagnostic detail is what happens immediately after completing Google sign-in and selecting Allow.

If the problem continues, it would be helpful to provide:

    • Outlook for iOS version
    • iOS version
    • Whether the Gmail account works normally in the Gmail app
    • Whether Outlook accepts the Google sign-in and then asks again later, or asks again immediately
    • Any error message displayed by Google or Outlook

That information should help determine whether this is an account configuration issue or a recurring Google OAuth/session issue in Outlook for iOS.
