I am on a family account trying to remove me from the account

Hi

I have a account that is signed up on the family account from when I was younger. I tried to remove myself from the family group I get the following message "Once you remove yourself from this Microsoft family, you'll no longer have your activity reported or have any safety settings applied to your Microsoft account. You'll still be able to sign in to all the devices you currently use." I am not listed under any accounts under my parents account but my dad still shows up as my admin. We have checked his account and I am not listed under his account. When I click on his profile in my account. It shows his name but no information such as email. He only has 2 emails and we have checked both. How to get off the family account.

One possibility is that you're dealing with an older parental consent relationship rather than a current Microsoft Family group. In that situation, leaving a Family group may not remove the restriction. If the account that originally granted consent is no longer known or accessible, Microsoft Support may need to review the account-side consent record.

Since this is a public forum, we cannot view account records, consent history, or Family Safety settings linked to your Microsoft account. Only Microsoft Support can review the account-side consent relationship and determine whether an old parental consent record needs to be updated or removed.

It sounds like your account may still have an old parental consent/Family Safety relationship associated with it, even though you are no longer showing correctly in your father's current Family group.

First, sign in with your own account at account.microsoft.com/family. If you see “Leave family group” next to your account, use that option.

If you cannot leave, check the date of birth on your Microsoft account and make sure Microsoft recognizes the account as an adult.

There is another important possibility: parental consent may originally have been granted using a different Microsoft account. Microsoft states that only the adult account that originally granted consent can manage/remove that consent. This could explain why your father appears as the administrator but neither of the accounts you checked shows you as a family member.

If your account no longer appears in any Family group but Windows still shows your father or applies Family Safety restrictions, Microsoft recommends refreshing the Family Safety configuration on the affected PC. Open Command Prompt and run:

schtasks /run /tn "Microsoft\Windows\Shell\FamilySafetyRefreshTask"

Then restart the computer.

If the relationship still appears after that, I would contact Microsoft Support because this may be an account-side Family Safety/parental-consent relationship rather than a setting on the PC.

I would not create a new Microsoft account — your existing account should be recoverable from this state.
