An integrated threat protection solution designed to detect, investigate, and respond to cyber threats across Microsoft 365 services.
Hi, Smith PC
The VPN shown as connected may belong to another VPN app rather than Microsoft Defender. iOS allows several VPN profiles to be installed, but only one device-wide VPN can be active at a time. A work VPN, ad-blocking app, security app, or private DNS app may therefore prevent Defender Web Protection from staying enabled.
It is recommended that you temporarily turn off or remove any other VPN/security profiles, restart the iPhone, and check Defender again. Also install all available updates for both iOS and Microsoft Defender, since app updates often include compatibility fixes.
If it still shows Off, delete and reinstall Microsoft Defender from the App Store. Sign back in using the same Microsoft account linked to your Microsoft 365 subscription, then complete the setup prompts again. This recreates Defender’s VPN profile.
For a company-managed iPhone, avoid removing management profiles yourself. Contact your IT administrator, as an Intune policy or another required corporate VPN may be controlling the Defender configuration. Defender for Endpoint on iOS troubleshooting documents the limitation involving multiple VPN profiles.
