Hi, @Mooath

You posted this under Windows, but this particular activation error can also appear on macOS. Are you using a Windows PC or a Mac?

That message usually means the purchase went through, but the license was not linked correctly to the Microsoft account you are signing in with.

First, sign in here using the Microsoft account used for the purchase: https://account.microsoft.com/services

Check whether the Office or Microsoft 365 product appears there.

Also check your order history here: https://account.microsoft.com/billing/orders Adjust the date range to include the purchase date.

To help narrow down the issue:

  1. What exact Office or Microsoft 365 bundle did you purchase, and where did you buy it?
  2. Does the purchase appear under "Services & subscriptions" or only under "Order history"?
  3. Are you using a Windows PC or a Mac?

Click "Add comment" to let me know.

Thanks!

Thank you for letting me know.

If you haven't tried anything yet:

  • Make sure you're signed in with the same Microsoft account that the subscription is linked to.
  • Open any Microsoft 365 app such as Word. > At the top of the screen, select Word (or the app name) in the menu bar. > Select About Word. > Click More Info… > Select "Refresh License".
  • After that, close any open documents and completely restart all Microsoft 365 apps so the license refresh can take effect.

If issue still persists:

If you haven't already, I’d suggest is to uninstall any existing Office apps on your Mac to avoid conflict:

Then, to reinstall Microsoft Office:

  • Go to https://account.microsoft.com/services
  • Sign in using the same Microsoft account linked to your license.
  • Find your Microsoft 365 Subscription and click the "Install".
  • That will download the installer for the Office apps, just run it and follow the steps.

If anything’s unclear or the "Install" option still doesn’t show, feel free to let me know. I’ll be happy to walk you through it!

I really hope this information is helpful! Let me know if you have any further questions or concerns.

Thanks!

    Try this in order:

    1. Confirm the correct account is being used
      • Sign in to Services & subscriptions at https://account.microsoft.com/services.
      • Check whether the Microsoft 365 or Office product appears there.
      • If it does not appear, the purchase is likely associated with a different Microsoft account.
      • If multiple personal email addresses exist, try signing in with each one. If this was provided by work or school, use the work or school account instead.
    2. If the product was bought from a retail or online store, complete redemption
      • If the purchase included a product key, redeem it with the Microsoft account that should own the product.
      • If it was bought from the Microsoft Store while already signed in, that signed-in account is the one associated with the purchase.
      • If installation was attempted without finishing redemption, complete that step first.
    3. Remove extra Office installations
      • In Windows, open Control Panel > Programs > Programs and Features.
      • Search for Office.
      • If more than one version is installed, uninstall the versions not being used.
      • Restart the laptop after uninstalling.
    4. Sign back in and try activation again
      • Open an Office app.
      • Sign in with the account confirmed in Services & subscriptions.
    5. If activation still fails, repair Office
      • Run an online repair for Office, then try activation again.
    6. If someone else installed or associated the product with another account
      • Contact support and have proof of purchase available.
    7. If the device came with Office preinstalled
      • A preinstalled copy can show activation problems if the installed apps do not match the product owned, or if the preinstalled version has not been updated to recognize the product key.
      • In that case, update Office and try again. If needed, reinstall Office 2019 using the standard install steps.
    8. If the message is specifically that the purchase succeeded but could not be associated
      • If the license was recognized but not activated, Microsoft Support may need to complete the resolution.
