I am unable to remove devices from my Microsoft account device list. There is a message about contacting my IT helpdesk, but there are no details on how to access that. There is no chatbox on the website, or alternative points of help contact.

If the device list is tied to a work or school account, the helpdesk details are available from the Company Portal website:

    1. Sign in to the Company Portal website with the work or school account.
    2. Go to Helpdesk to view the support contact details.

If the device is organization-managed, there are two user actions available depending on where it appears:

    1. In My Account at https://myaccount.microsoft.com/, open Devices and select Disable for the device.
Warning: disabling a device cannot be undone by the user. An administrator must add it again.
    2. In the Company Portal website at https://portal.manage.microsoft.com, go to Devices, select the device, and choose Remove. This unenrolls and unregisters a personal device from work or school management and may remove access to protected work data, apps, email, and files on that device.

If the device list is tied to a personal Microsoft account, remove it from https://account.microsoft.com/devices/ by selecting Remove device and confirming the removal.

If removal fails or the device reappears, the documented community guidance is that this can be caused by server-side sync delays. Waiting a few days and trying again from the same Devices page is the supported next step.

    Dear Gavin Shore,

Since the message specifically tells you to contact your IT helpdesk, it usually indicates that the devices are managed by a work or school organization. In that case, only an administrator in the organization may have permission to remove them from the device list in the Microsoft Entra admin center.

From there, you can navigate to Identity > Devices > All devices, select the device, and remove it if appropriate. For more information, please follow this article: Manage device identities using the Microsoft Entra admin center

In this case, may I ask whether you are an administrator for your Microsoft 365 tenant, or are you a regular user?

    • If you are a user, please reach out to your IT administrator or helpdesk, as they manage the Microsoft 365 subscription and have the permissions required to remove organization-managed devices. For reference: How do I find my Microsoft 365 admin?
    • If you are the IT administrator and you purchased and manage the subscription yourself, sign in with an account that has Global Administrator permissions and access the Microsoft Entra admin center: https://entra.microsoft.com/
    • If you cannot remember which account has the Global Administrator role, you may need to identify the admin account first. Try signing in with any work accounts you own and check the assigned roles in the Microsoft Entra admin center > Users > All users > Look at the User Type

I hope the information is helpful. If you have any questions or if I have misunderstood anything, please feel free to reach out. I'm looking forward to your update.
