A Microsoft file hosting and synchronization service.
For OneDrive for Business shared folders, the supported recovery path is:
- Search on the OneDrive website first. Use Search everything and try file names, descriptions, dates, and folder names.
- Check the OneDrive Recycle bin on the left side of the OneDrive website. If the missing folders appear there, select them and choose Restore.
- Check local storage on the affected PC:
- Use File Explorer to search for the missing files or folders.
- Check the Windows Recycle Bin.
- If the files were deleted from the cloud, they will not appear in the computer Recycle Bin. In that case, recovery must come from the OneDrive or SharePoint web recycle bin.
- If the missing content was in a shared folder that someone else deleted, that shared folder cannot be restored by the recipient.
- If the files are not found in search or in the OneDrive Recycle bin, they usually cannot be retrieved through self-service. For work or school accounts, the next step is to contact the organization’s IT helpdesk, service desk, or admin.
- The IT admin should gather:
- Names of the missing files or folders
- Approximate last access time
- Which device was used
- If the organization supports it, the entire OneDrive can be restored to a previous point in time from the OneDrive website by selecting Options > Restore your OneDrive. This can undo actions on files and folders from the last 30 days.
