After update of windows 11 can’t enter my account

After a recent Windows update, I can no longer access my computer and I am being asked for a BitLocker recovery key.

I do not remember which Microsoft account was used when Windows was set up approximately four years ago. I remember a few possible email addresses, including [email address removed], but I do not know the passwords or have access to the recovery email accounts.

My main concern is that I do not want to lose the personal files and important data stored on this computer. I do not want to reset or reinstall Windows if this could erase my data.

I would like assistance identifying the Microsoft account associated with this device and finding the BitLocker recovery key, or understanding what options are available to recover access while preserving my data.

I can provide proof of ownership, device information, possible email addresses, and any other information needed to verify the computer belongs to me.

    Welcome Ilhama Aliyeva,

I'm sorry to hear you're unable to access your PC after the update. I understand your concern about protecting your personal files and avoiding any action that could risk data loss.

Before suggesting additional options, could you please confirm:

    • Is this your personal Windows 11 Home device, or was it ever provided or managed by a company, school, or organization?
    • On the BitLocker recovery screen, do you see a Recovery Key ID? If so, please share only the first 8 characters of the ID (do not post the full key).
    • Have you already checked for a recovery key at Microsoft's recovery key page? https://account.microsoft.com/devices/recoverykey

In the meantime, please try these safe checks:

    • Sign in to the Microsoft recovery key page using each Microsoft account you may have used in the past. The recovery key is often stored automatically in the account that was signed in when device encryption or BitLocker was enabled.
    • If you have access to another trusted device, visit: https://account.microsoft.com/devices and check whether this PC appears under any of your Microsoft accounts.
    • Gather the information shown on the BitLocker recovery screen, especially the Recovery Key ID. This can help determine whether the correct Microsoft account is being used.

Important: I do not recommend resetting, reinstalling Windows, deleting partitions, or formatting the drive at this stage, as doing so could make recovery of your data more difficult.

Once you confirm the answers to the questions above, I'll suggest the next appropriate steps while keeping data preservation as the priority.
