Managing personal Outlook.com account settings, security, and privacy
If the password is still known but the old email for verification no longer works, add a new sign-in or verification method, then remove the old one:
- Sign in to the Microsoft account Security page.
- Select Manage how I sign in.
- Select Add a new way to sign in or verify.
- Choose a mobile number or another available method and complete the verification code step.
- After the new method is confirmed, remove the old email/security method that no longer works.
Important: do not change all security info at the same time. That can restrict the account for 30 days.
If access exists to some security info but not all, the same path can be used from Advanced security options to add a new method first, then remove the old one.
If there is no sign-in access because none of the current verification methods work:
- Start sign-in to the Microsoft account.
- At Verify your identity, select I don't have any of these.
- Follow the instructions to replace the security info.
- After replacement, there is a 30-day wait before sign-in is available again.
If the password is also unknown and there is no access to any security info, use the account recovery form.
If sign-in problems continue, use the Sign-in helper tool. Support can be contacted through Contact Microsoft Support, but support agents cannot send verification codes, password reset links, or change account details.
