    Hello Kristjan Haraldsson,

I understand that you cannot access your Microsoft account because the verification email no longer works, and you would like to register a mobile number instead.

Please note that this is a user-to-user forum, so contributors cannot access accounts, verify ownership, or change security information.

The Q&A Assist answer provides the correct main options. Have you had a chance to try those steps?

I would also like to add that the option to register a phone number may not appear for every Microsoft account. Depending on the available security methods, you may instead be offered another email address, Microsoft Authenticator, or a passkey. Also, if all security information must be replaced, the account enters a 30-day restricted period, although some services may remain accessible during that time.

Could you provide the exact message displayed when you try to sign in, without posting your email address, phone number, or verification codes?

Note: Please follow the steps in our documentation to enable e-mail notifications if you want to receive the related email notification for this thread.

If the password is still known but the old email for verification no longer works, add a new sign-in or verification method, then remove the old one:

    1. Sign in to the Microsoft account Security page.
    2. Select Manage how I sign in.
    3. Select Add a new way to sign in or verify.
    4. Choose a mobile number or another available method and complete the verification code step.
    5. After the new method is confirmed, remove the old email/security method that no longer works.

Important: do not change all security info at the same time. That can restrict the account for 30 days.

If access exists to some security info but not all, the same path can be used from Advanced security options to add a new method first, then remove the old one.

If there is no sign-in access because none of the current verification methods work:

    1. Start sign-in to the Microsoft account.
    2. At Verify your identity, select I don't have any of these.
    3. Follow the instructions to replace the security info.
    4. After replacement, there is a 30-day wait before sign-in is available again.

If the password is also unknown and there is no access to any security info, use the account recovery form.

If sign-in problems continue, use the Sign-in helper tool. Support can be contacted through Contact Microsoft Support, but support agents cannot send verification codes, password reset links, or change account details.
