My Microsoft Sculpt Comfort Keyboard is NOT showing up as a bluetooth device on my new HP Elitebook laptop, though when I go back to utilize my 16 year old HP Elitebook it comes up automatically. How do I fix this ??

    Hi Bob Labrador,

Thank you for the update. Please first try the steps provided in the AI Answer and let me know how they go.

If the issue continues, I suggest trying these additional checks:

    • Temporarily disconnect any USB hubs, docks or USB 3.0 devices near the laptop, as they can sometimes interfere with Bluetooth signals.
    • Disconnect other Bluetooth accessories temporarily, restart the laptop, and test the keyboard again.
    • Press Windows + R, enter services.msc and restart "Bluetooth Support Service".
    • Check for BIOS, firmware, chipset, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth updates for the exact HP EliteBook model.
    • Try connecting another Bluetooth device to the new laptop. If other devices are also undetected, the issue is more likely related to the laptop’s Bluetooth configuration.
    • Confirm whether the keyboard has a Bluetooth pairing button or normally uses its original USB receiver. Some Microsoft Sculpt keyboard models connect only through their supplied receiver rather than standard Bluetooth.

Please let me know the results and the exact keyboard model number, usually printed underneath the keyboard.

Try this in order on the new Windows 11 HP EliteBook:

    1. Make sure Bluetooth is actually on.
      • Select the Network, Sound, or Battery icons on the right side of the taskbar.
      • Check that Bluetooth is turned on.
      • Or go to Start > Settings > Bluetooth & devices and confirm Bluetooth is on.
    2. Check the keyboard itself.
      • Make sure the keyboard is turned on.
      • Make sure it has fresh batteries.
      • Turn the keyboard off, wait a few seconds, then turn it back on.
      • Keep it close to the laptop while pairing.
    3. Change Bluetooth discovery so more device types are shown.
      • Go to Start > Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Devices.
      • Under Device settings > Bluetooth devices discovery, change it to Advanced.
      • This can help if the keyboard is not appearing in the device list.
    4. Make sure Airplane mode is off.
      • Select the Network, Sound, or Battery icons on the taskbar.
      • Confirm Airplane mode is off.
    5. If the keyboard asks for a PIN during pairing:
      • Check the keyboard documentation or the device itself for the PIN.
      • Try 0000 or 1234.
      • If Windows does not show a PIN entry box, type 0000 on the Bluetooth keyboard and press Enter.
    6. If Bluetooth works but the keyboard still does not appear, remove and re-pair Bluetooth devices.
      • Go to Start > Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Devices.
      • For the problem device, select More options > Remove device > Yes.
      • Then try pairing again.
    7. Run the Windows Bluetooth troubleshooter.
      • In Windows 11, run the Bluetooth troubleshooter in the Get Help app.
      • It can automatically diagnose and fix common Bluetooth problems.
    8. If Bluetooth is missing or unstable on the new laptop, update or reinstall the Bluetooth adapter driver.
      • Open Device Manager.
      • Expand Bluetooth.
      • Right-click the Bluetooth adapter and select Update driver > Search automatically for updated driver software.
      • If that does not help, uninstall the Bluetooth adapter in Device Manager, then shut down and turn the laptop back on so Windows can reinstall it automatically.
      • If Windows does not reinstall it, in Device Manager use Action > Scan for hardware changes.
      • If needed, install the latest Bluetooth driver from the HP support site for that EliteBook model.
    9. If the keyboard is detected on the older laptop but never appears on the new one, also make sure it is not still actively paired only to the old laptop. Removing it there and then pairing again on the new laptop can help.
