I am listed as an admin on a business account and i can't login as the admin.

Which portal or service are you trying to sign in to, such as the Microsoft 365 Admin Center or Azure portal?
What is the exact error message you receive when attempting to sign in?
Does the issue occur after entering your password or during the multi-factor authentication process?
Are you still able to access the account through another sign-in or verification method?
Is there another administrator in your organization who can still sign in successfully?
If possible, please provide a screenshot of the error message. Before sharing it, make sure to remove or hide any personal or sensitive information.

This is for the Microsoft office 365 account. I tried logging in to both admin portals. The previous admin gave me admin rights but I never set up an admin account. I just have my employee Outlook/365 account which I can still login to.

Hi Malissa,

Thank you for providing the additional information.

When you sign in to the Microsoft Admin Portal using the credentials provided by the previous administrator, you may be asked to complete Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA).

If you see a number on the sign-in screen and cannot proceed, the previous administrator may still have the Microsoft Authenticator app registered for that account on their device.

In this situation:

Contact the previous administrator.

Ask them to approve the sign-in request in the Microsoft Authenticator app by entering or selecting the matching number shown on your screen.

Once approved, you should be able to complete the sign-in process.

After you successfully sign in, I recommend updating the account's authentication methods so that future MFA requests are sent to your own device.

Additionally, if you have another admin account with the Global Administrator role (or another role that can manage authentication methods), you can reset the MFA registration for the affected administrator account (a previous administrator):

Sign in to the Microsoft Entra admin center

Go to Entra ID > Users.

Select the affected administrator account.

Select Authentication methods.

Select Revoke sessions to sign the account out of any active sessions.

Select Require re-register MFA to remove the current MFA registration and require the user to set up MFA again at the next sign-in.

Important: This process removes the existing MFA methods from the account. The user will be prompted to register new authentication methods the next time they sign in.

Please note that an administrator account cannot reset its own authentication methods. You must use a different account with the required administrator permissions.
