Processes in Microsoft 365 for setting up Office apps, redeeming product keys, and activating licenses.
An Installation ID error usually happens because of mismatched phone activation portals, region discrepancies, or issue with cheap volume-licensed keys (MSDN/VL) common for Office Professional Plus.
Here is how to resolve the issue:
- Use the Web Activation Portal (Self-Service)
Instead of entering the numbers on the phone system, use Microsoft's official online activation wizard on your phone or desktop:
- Open a web browser and go to the official Microsoft Self-Service Activation Page.
- Select 63-digit Installation ID when prompted.
- Enter the groups of numbers exactly as shown in your Office Activation Wizard screen.
- If successful, it will generate a Confirmation ID (A–H) to type back into your Office wizard.
- Verify the Installation ID Format
- Ensure you haven't typed extra spaces, letters, or omitted a digit group.
- Make sure you selected the correct country/region in the dropdown on Step 1 of the phone activation wizard, as this sets the correct toll-free line and system lookup.
- Check Key & License Type
- Office Professional Plus is designed for volume licensing and businesses, not individual retail sales. Third-party keys bought cheaply online are frequently blocked or deactivated by Microsoft.
- If the portal states the ID cannot be recognized or is invalid, contact the key seller immediately for a replacement key or a refund. An Installation ID error usually happens because of mismatched phone activation portals, region discrepancies, or issue with cheap volume-licensed keys (MSDN/VL) common for Office Professional Plus.
