win11, and the device recognized as dvdram is not able to handle any disc media

Recently have bought a brand new PC, with win11-professional installed,
for listening to my cds i've also added a HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GH24NSD6, a Sata-DVDBurner.
But Win11 only recognizes it as a cdrom, without burning capabilities.
Also It denies to play AudioCD, furthermore it denies to recognize empty DVD+RW,
its not able to burn nor play audio. Preburnt Data-CDs work, but anything else runs into a

"you'll have to format the disc to use it".
I've already tried to uninstall and reinstall driver, there is a limited choice on update driver the DVDRAM still apears as cdrom.sys-Drive, nothing burnable.
I've also tried to listen to a Sony-CD, a real CDROM not burnable, (salt'n'pepa let's talk about sxx, an original).
winamp said there are tracks visible, showing strange durations of 144000minutes per track, and it won't play.
Then i've installed the window-feature for media, still the same.
Am I missing some secretly placed codec-pack, or is this fundamental legacy-feature of listening to a simple AudioCD removed?

Since the drive can read previously burned data CDs but struggles with audio CDs, rewritable media, and burning operations, this may point to a disc-detection or optical-drive compatibility issue rather than a missing Windows codec. The fact that audio tracks are detected with incorrect durations is also a useful clue that the drive is communicating with the system, but not interpreting certain media correctly.

As a quick test, you could try:

Open Command Prompt (Admin) and run: sfc /scannow
Then restart the PC.

Check whether the drive can read a bootable DVD (such as a Windows installation disc). If the disc is not recognized before Windows loads, that would help determine whether the issue is occurring at the hardware/firmware level rather than within Windows.

If available, test the drive on a different SATA port or with a different SATA data cable. Optical drives can sometimes exhibit unusual media-detection behavior when the connection is unstable.

Please also visit the drive manufacturer's support site and verify whether a newer firmware version is available for the GH24NSD6 model.

If the drive continues to treat multiple disc types incorrectly while standard data CDs remain readable, the results of the bootable-disc test would be particularly helpful in narrowing down the cause.

Thank you for the quick hints, I'll try on the weekend. Checking cables first is a promising approach, who knows what happend during parcel service.

Checking the physical connections first is definitely a sensible next step. Optical drives can be surprisingly sensitive to SATA data or power connection issues, especially after shipping or installation.

If you find anything loose, simply reseating both the SATA data and power cables may be enough to rule that out. It will also help determine whether the behavior is related to the drive itself or the system configuration.
