How do I switch my personal account to a business account?

I am currently running a family/personal account, but I am trying to connect through the enterprise Dropbox program using Dropbox for Teams to activate co-authoring capabilities within my team. One of the requirements from Dropbox is that the Microsoft subscription is a business subscription, not a personal subscription. How do I upgrade my personal subscription to a business subscription so that we can use co-authoring?

    Hi Gray,

    Since you would like to switch from a personal Microsoft account to a Microsoft 365 business account, please note that these accounts use separate identity and management systems. Therefore, a personal Microsoft account cannot be converted directly into a business account. 

    I recommend the following steps: 

    1. Visit the Microsoft 365 Business plans and pricing page. 
    2. Select and purchase the plan that best meets your business needs. 
    3. Complete the registration process to create your Microsoft 365 organization and administrator account. 
    4. Sign in to the Microsoft 365 admin center, where you can create users, assign licenses, and manage your Microsoft 365 business services.

    Please note that data from your personal account will not be transferred automatically. If needed, you can migrate it manually: 

    • OneDrive: Add both accounts to the OneDrive sync app, then copy the required files from your personal OneDrive folder to your business OneDrive folder. 
    • Outlook: Export your email, contacts, and calendar to a .pst file, then import it into your business mailbox. 
    • Other services: Data from OneNote, Teams, or other applications may need to be moved or set up separately. 

    I recommend verifying that all required data has been successfully migrated before cancelling your personal subscription. 

    If you no longer need the personal subscription, you can manage or cancel it from Microsoft account – Services & subscriptions. Please sign in with the same personal Microsoft account used to purchase the subscription. If it was purchased through Apple, Google Play, or another provider, it must be cancelled through that provider. Please keep your personal account active as a free account. Do not close or delete it if you used it to purchase your business account. Important notifications and details regarding your business subscription will continue to be sent to that address.
