Processes in Microsoft 365 for setting up Office apps, redeeming product keys, and activating licenses.
Yes—if the Office 2016 license was redeemed with a Microsoft account, it can usually be found there and reinstalled from that account.
- Sign in to the Microsoft account Services & subscriptions page: account.microsoft.com/services.
- Check whether Office 2016 appears there.
- If it appears, use the Install option from that page to reinstall. A redeemed Office 2016 key is no longer reused.
- If entering the old product key says This product key has already been used or is no longer valid, that is expected after redemption. Reinstallation is done by signing in with the Microsoft account that originally redeemed the key.
- If Office is still installed on an older device, open Word or another Office app and go to File > Account. Under the product name, check Belongs to to see which Microsoft account the license is associated with.
- If the license does not appear, try any other Microsoft accounts that may have been used when Office 2016 was first set up.
- If the Microsoft account cannot be accessed, use the Microsoft account help options or contact support.
Also, the full Office product key cannot be viewed in Office or online, except for the Workplace Discount Program exception described by Microsoft.
