I need help with Microsoft 365 Personal subscription billing and refund. I want to move to Microsoft 365 Business

I currently have Microsoft 365 Personal, which renewed on 12 August 2026 for £84.99. I now need Microsoft 365 Business for my company and would like to use one Microsoft 365 subscription for the Office desktop apps, while keeping my personal email account and my business email account separate in Outlook.

Before I purchase the Business subscription, could you please advise on the best way to do this? If I move to Microsoft 365 Business, I would also like to know whether my recently renewed Microsoft 365 Personal subscription can be cancelled and refunded and how it works?

Microsoft 365 Personal and Microsoft 365 Business are separate subscriptions, so you can't directly convert from Personal to Business. You can purchase the appropriate Business plan and then cancel the Personal subscription separately.

You can still use Outlook with both your personal and business email accounts configured at the same time. Purchasing a Business subscription doesn't require you to stop using your personal Microsoft account.

Regarding the £84.99 renewal on August 12, you may be eligible for a refund if you cancel, depending on the subscription and local refund policy. Since the renewal was recent, I recommend checking your Microsoft account → Services & subscriptions → Manage → Cancel subscription. If you don't see a refund option, contact Microsoft Support to have the recent renewal reviewed.

For the Business plan, note that Microsoft 365 Business Basic does not include the full desktop Office applications. If you need Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook installed, consider Business Standard or another plan that includes desktop apps.

Purchase and activate the Business subscription first, verify the desktop apps and business account work, then cancel the Personal subscription and pursue the refund separately.

You will need to cancel the personal subscription first.

Please go to https://account.live.com

Sign in to your Microsoft account. Then go to Services. Click on Manage for the subscription plan you want to cancel.

Then contact support to ask for refund. Try to do this before Sept 12th.

To get help, open the "Get Help" app on your computer (just search for it in the Start menu). or go to https://support.microsoft.com/contactus, Type "Billing" and press Enter. On the next screen, click "Contact support" at the bottom of the page, then choose "Microsoft 365" > "Manage my subscription". You’ll then see the option to chat with a Microsoft support agent who has access to your account to help review the issue. Explain to them that you bought the wrong type and need the business one.

Also, personal and business products are from two separate ecosystems. When you sign up for the business product, you will be asked to create a different username that ends with onmicrosoft.com. It will NOT be using your personal account email. Make sure you write that down, as all future business apps set up and management will need to use that username.
