Setting up brand new Windows laptop - OneDrive issue

When I first start up my new laptop is there a way to completely opt out of OneDrive? Will OneDrive already be set up as Windows setup is doing its thing? I hate OneDrive, and I'd prefer that it never gets set up or even installed, instead of having to uninstall it or turn it off later.

Yes, you can avoid using OneDrive, although OneDrive may already be installed as part of Windows 11 on a new laptop.

During the initial Windows setup, watch for any screen asking you to back up or save your files with OneDrive. Choose the option to skip it or save files only on the PC if that option is shown. The wording can vary depending on the Windows version.

Once you reach the desktop, check whether OneDrive has actually signed in or started syncing. If you do not want it at all, you can go to:

Settings > Apps > Installed apps > Microsoft OneDrive > Uninstall

Before uninstalling it, just make sure Desktop, Documents, or Pictures have not already started backing up to OneDrive.
