I am trying to close a Microsoft account I longer use. The checklist says to "Reset Protection". I click on the link and it takes me to Devices in settings. But I can't find where "Reset Protection" is located. Here is what is in the checklist for closing a Microsoft account:

  • Turn off Reset Protection. You'll need to turn off Reset Protection for any Windows devices that have it turned on. If you don't turn off Reset Protection, your device could become unusable after your account is closed.

HELP... I can't locate where it turn this off.

Welcome Kathy Fabsits,

Thanks for reaching out to Microsoft Q&A Forum. I understand you cannot find the Reset Protection option mentioned in the Microsoft account closure checklist.

Please follow the steps below to troubleshoot the issue

1, Open Settings > Privacy & security > Find my device

  • Check whether Find my device is turned on

2, Open the Devices page for your Microsoft account

  • Select each Windows device listed
  • Check whether any Reset Protection or device protection options are available

3, If no such option appears on any device

  • Make sure the device is running Windows 11 and is signed in with the Microsoft account you plan to close

4, If you no longer have any Windows devices associated with the account

  • The Reset Protection requirement may not apply to your account
