Since last Friday this happened:

User's image

and if I try to change it:

User's image

so now OneDrive is stuck to 10GB despite E3 license allowing up to 5TB.

and even support assist is broken so impossible to raise a support ticket:
r/microsoft365 - Onedrive for business stuck at 10GB since Friday, support assistant not working

copilot resume of troubleshooting:

Subject: OneDrive storage quota incorrectly reduced to 10 GB

My OneDrive for Business storage quota was unexpectedly reduced to 10 GB approximately 2-3 days ago.

Tenant details:

  • License SKU: DEVELOPERPACK (Office 365 E3 Developer)
  • Tenant default OneDrive storage limit: 1024 GB
  • User: xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Evidence:

  • Microsoft 365 Admin Center shows the organization's default OneDrive limit is 1024 GB.
  • The user account is configured with a maximum storage of 10 GB.
  • SharePoint Online PowerShell returns:

Get-SPOSite 'https://xxxxxxxxxxxxxx-my.sharepoint.com/personal/yyyyyyy'

StorageQuota : 10240

StorageQuotaType : UserSpecific

Issue:

  • The personal OneDrive site has been changed to a UserSpecific quota of 10240 MB (10 GB).
  • The quota is inconsistent with the tenant default limit of 1024 GB.
  • OneDrive reports the site as full because usage now equals the 10 GB quota.

Actions already performed:

  • Verified tenant default storage limit remains 1024 GB.
  • Verified license assignment.
  • Connected using SharePoint Online Management Shell.
  • Confirmed StorageQuotaType = UserSpecific.
  • Attempted to remove/reset the UserSpecific quota using SharePoint Online PowerShell.
  • Quota remains 10240 MB.

Request:

Please investigate the backend quota assignment for this OneDrive site and restore the correct OneDrive quota according to tenant entitlement. Please remove the incorrect UserSpecific quota and reapply the default tenant allocation.

The behavior matches OneDrive quota enforcement when a user has an effective per-user quota lower than current usage. A OneDrive site becomes read-only when usage exceeds the quota currently applied to that user.

    Based on the details provided:

    1. The tenant default is still 1024 GB.
    2. The affected OneDrive is showing StorageQuotaType : UserSpecific and StorageQuota : 10240.
    3. That means the site is currently governed by a user-specific 10 GB limit, not the tenant default.
    4. Because usage is already at 10 GB, the site is read-only until the quota issue is resolved.

What can be done from admin side:

    1. In the Microsoft 365 admin center, go to Users > Active users > select the user > OneDrive tab.
    2. Under Storage used, select Edit.
    3. Try setting Maximum storage for this user to the intended value and save, or switch it back to the organization default if the UI allows it.
    4. Then verify the effective limit again in the user’s OneDrive tab by checking the max value shown next to Storage used.

If the storage amount reverts or cannot be changed, Microsoft documents a diagnostic path:

    1. In the Microsoft 365 admin center, select Run Tests.
    2. Launch the OneDrive storage quota diagnostic.
    3. Follow the recommendations returned by the diagnostic.

Important limitation from the documented guidance:

    • If the quota cannot be increased, the only supported workaround is to reduce OneDrive usage below the current quota by deleting or moving files and then emptying the OneDrive recycle bin.
    • After the quota is increased or usage is reduced, allow time for SharePoint Online to reevaluate the site, then confirm upload and edit access is restored.

The provided evidence already shows this is not the tenant default setting but a user-specific quota override. If admin center changes do not persist and the diagnostic does not resolve it, the supported facts in the documentation stop at running the quota diagnostic and verifying the applied limit.

which of course is nowhere to be found...

    Hi Alessandro,

Thank you for sharing the details of your situation and the troubleshooting you have already performed.

As this is a user-to-user community forum, I do not have the ability to directly access or modify your account or service. However, I can provide guidance, recommend next steps, share applicable resources, and direct you to the appropriate support channels so the issue can be investigated further.

The information provided shows that the affected OneDrive site is currently subject to a 10 GB user-specific quota:

    StorageQuota : 10240

    StorageQuotaType : UserSpecific

Although the organization’s default OneDrive limit is set to 1024 GB, the admin center does not allow this user’s quota to be increased beyond 10 GB. This suggests that the limit is being enforced at the service or licensing level and cannot currently be resolved through the standard storage settings or SharePoint Online PowerShell

I also understand that you attempted to follow Microsoft’s documented diagnostic path for OneDrive storage quota issues, but the Run Tests option was not available. Since Support Assistant is currently blocked in your admin center, this may be preventing the diagnostic from appearing correctly..

At this stage, I recommend contacting Microsoft Support. The support team can verify the storage entitlement recognized for the DEVELOPERPACK license, investigate why the 10 GB user-specific quota was assigned, and correct the backend quota configuration if it was applied incorrectly.

    To create a support request:

    • Sign in to the Microsoft 365 admin center using a Global Administrator account or another administrator account authorized to create support requests.
    • Select Help & support from the navigation menu.
    • User's image
    • Turn off the "Support Assistant" toggle at the top of the support pane.
    • Enter "OneDrive storage quota unexpectedly reduced to 10 GB" in the issue description.
    • If the OneDrive Storage Quota diagnostic or Run Tests option appears, run the diagnostic and save the results.
    • User's image
    • If the diagnostic is unavailable or does not resolve the issue, choose the "Contact support".
    • User's image
    • Follow the prompts to create a new service request and select the preferred contact method.

I hope this helps move the case forward. Should you have any further questions or need additional assistance, please feel free to share them in the comment below. I'm very happy to help.
