Managing personal Outlook.com account settings, security, and privacy
Outlook.com sending limits cannot be manually removed on request. They are enforced by Microsoft to help prevent spam, and new or low-trust accounts can have lower temporary quotas until account credibility is established.
Supported steps to improve or restore sending capacity:
- Update account security info, including phone number and alternate email address.
- Complete profile details such as profile name, photo, date of birth, and gender.
- Use a strong password with uppercase and lowercase letters, numbers, and special characters.
- Add intended recipients to Outlook.com Contacts.
- Communicate frequently with existing contacts.
- Use the Microsoft Authenticator app to verify identity.
- If the account is new, wait for the temporary low sending quota to increase as credibility is established.
Checks that can also block sending:
- Attachments larger than 25 MB cannot be sent.
- If a signature is configured, remove it and try sending again.
- If a non-delivery receipt was received, review the reason in that message.
- The recipient may need to add the address to their safe senders list.
For Microsoft 365 subscribers, documented Outlook.com limits are:
- Daily recipients: 5,000
- Maximum recipients per message: 500
- Daily non-relationship recipients: 1,000
Limits can be lower for non-subscribers and may vary based on usage history.
If self-help does not resolve it in Outlook.com, use Help in Outlook.com, enter the issue, then go to Still need help? and select Yes.
