A Microsoft app for iOS and Android devices that enables authentication with two-factor verification, phone sign-in, and code generation
If the app is asking for a code from Microsoft Authenticator, but access to the app is blocked by that same requirement, use these checks first:
- Make sure the Authenticator app is unlocked on the phone. If the app is locked, the entry box for the code might not appear.
- Check that notifications are enabled for Microsoft Authenticator. Silent or disabled notifications can prevent the prompt from appearing.
- Update Microsoft Authenticator to the latest version from the device app store.
- Verify the phone has internet access. Switching between Wi‑Fi and mobile data can help.
- Check that the device date and time are correct.
- If sign-in shows Other ways to sign in, select it and then choose Approve a request on my Microsoft Authenticator app if available.
If the account is a work or school account and access is still blocked, contact the organization’s IT admin or helpdesk. That is the supported path for organization-managed Authenticator sign-in issues.
If the account is a personal Microsoft account and access is still blocked, use the sign-in helper or contact Microsoft Support. Support agents cannot send password reset links or change account details directly, but those are the documented support channels.
If the issue is temporary and an error such as "Something went wrong. [4s8qz]" appears, try again after a short wait, then restart the device if needed. If the problem continues, send logs from Authenticator using Send feedback in the app’s top-level menu before contacting support.
