A recently purchased Windows Pro upgrade from Microsoft Store is typically a digital license, not a 25-character product key. The license is associated with the Microsoft account used for the purchase.
What to do:
- Sign in to Windows with the same Microsoft account used to buy the upgrade.
- Open Settings > System > Activation on Windows 11.
- If Windows does not activate automatically, select Troubleshoot in Activation.
- If the upgrade still does not apply, use Change product key and enter the generic Windows Pro upgrade key:
VK7JG-NPHTM-C97JM-9MPGT-3V66T - Restart, reconnect to the internet, and check Activation again.
Important:
- For an upgrade license, there may be no product key in the order confirmation.
- If the purchase was a full Windows license bought from Microsoft, the product key may be in the confirmation email containing the order history.
- If the order history does not show Product key/Install, select Install if available, or select the product name to open its product page.
- If Microsoft Store is not showing the purchase correctly, reset the Store app: press Windows key + R, run
wsreset.exe, and let Microsoft Store reopen.
If the key is still not available and activation still fails, use Contact Support through Microsoft Support for purchase verification and activation help.
