How do I setup the backend of Entra/Azure to allow staff only not students to add applications to a teams meeting like MS Polls?

    Hi Michelle,

For your concern, the main configuration is in the Teams admin center, combining with using Microsoft Entra ID groups:

Step 1: Create staff and student groups in Entra ID

    • Sign into Microsoft Entra admin center and go to Identity > Groups > All groups.
    • Create two groups: Teams-Staff and Teams-Students
    • Make sure all educators and staff are in the Staff group + all students are in the Students group only, not in the Staff group.

Step 2: Restrict Microsoft Polls to staff only

    • Go to Teams admin center > Teams apps > Manage apps > search for Polls (it may appear as Polls or Microsoft Forms/Polls.)
    • Open the application (confirm that the publisher is Microsoft to ensure you open the correct one)
    • Select Users and groups > Availability > Edit availability.
    • Change Available to from Everyone to Specific users or groups > add your Teams-Staff group > Apply.

With this configuration, only members of the staff group can add and use the Polls app in Teams. Students will not be able to add the app to meetings because the app is unavailable to their accounts. Please note that this availability change can take up to 24 hours to apply.

Hope this information would be helpful. Should you have any further questions or need additional assistance, please feel free to share them in the comment below. I'm very happy to help.
