If the account says too many incorrect sign-in attempts were made, stop trying to sign in repeatedly. Repeated attempts can extend the temporary block.

    1. Wait at least 24 hours before trying again.
    2. Use the Microsoft account Sign-in helper to check the account and get the right recovery path.
    3. If the password is correct but sign-in still fails, use Recover your account and reset the password.
    4. If verification codes are not arriving, try another verification method already connected to the account.
    5. If possible, switch networks, such as Wi‑Fi to mobile data, or use a different Wi‑Fi network.
    6. If the block does not clear after 24 hours, wait longer — as long as possible up to 1 week — and avoid repeated attempts during that time.
    7. If access to security info was lost:
      • If access remains to some security info, sign in to Advanced security options, add a new way to sign in or verify, confirm it, then remove the old method.
      • Do not change all security info at the same time, because the account may be restricted for 30 days.
      • If access was lost to all security info, at the Verify your identity prompt select I don't have any of these and follow the steps to replace security info. After replacement, there is a 30-day wait before sign-in is allowed.
    8. If the account still cannot be recovered, contact Microsoft Support through Get Help. Support cannot send password reset links or change account details.
