Title: Tenant lockout – no accessible Global Administrator – request Data Protection / Tenant Recovery escalation

Hello,

I need assistance with an existing Microsoft 365 / Microsoft Entra tenant belonging to my company.

I no longer have administrative access to the tenant. I was the only administrator and there is no other accessible Global Administrator. Therefore I am unable to open a support request through the Microsoft 365 Admin Center.

This is a tenant lockout.

The Microsoft Teams Essentials subscription associated with this tenant has already been cancelled. My objective is to completely decommission the old tenant and release the custom domain from this Microsoft organization.

I am the owner/authorized representative of the company and have control of the DNS for the custom domain. I can provide proof of ownership, billing/subscription information, the Tenant ID, company name and domain name through a private and secure communication channel.

Please help create a support ticket and escalate this case to the Microsoft Data Protection / Tenant Recovery team.

Since I cannot access the affected tenant, I am posting this request using a separate personal Microsoft account.

Please let me know how I can provide the tenant details privately.

Thank you.

This forum cannot create support requests as it is mostly non-MS staff managed. Kindly do it yourself.

Reset MFA using these steps:

Reset Microsoft MFA & Recover Access to Your Microsoft 365 Admin Account using a phone Call

Another option is to contact Microsoft support if you are locked out of your account. Please note that this method works only for Microsoft 365 Business accounts; for consumer Outlook accounts, you must complete the recovery form as described here.

Get the Country Support phone number

First step you would need to do is to get the contact number for the country, using this Microsoft support document.

Customer service phone numbers – Microsoft Support

Once you have done that, call the number. See the extensive details on how to reach a Human:

Navigating the Support IVR — Step-by-Step

When you call Microsoft support to reset Microsoft MFA or resolve a forgot password for a Microsoft 365 issue, follow these IVR prompts:

  • Wait out the intro — You may hear a ~30-second automated introduction (e.g., “you can visit the link…”). Ignore it and wait for the menu options.
  • Press 1 — Select yourself as a business email user
  • Press 1 again — Choose technical help

Automated IVR Conversation Guide

In some regions, the initial interaction is fully automated. Use these answers to navigate it:

  • “What kind of problem are you experiencing?” → Answer: Authenticator
  • “What products do you use?” → Answer: Office 365 for Business
  • “Is this for an education or company account?” → Answer: For companies
  • “Are you an administrator?” → Answer: Yes
  • “Are there any other administrators in your organisation?” → Answer: No — I am the only admin in my tenant
  • “Do you need a service request?” → Answer: Yes. I need to create a ticket. Please send me directly to the Data Protection Team.
