Have been sitting on this old account and it seems to override my main account that I now use, this on @gmx.co.uk
The old account is @windstream.net and I no longer use. My monthly payment is off my gmx address. Can you help me out by removing the windstream details or give me simple instructions to do so.

Please explain what you mean by the old address "overriding" the current one? If you log into https://account.microsoft.com/services with the old account, do you see your subscription? How about if you use the current one? What do you see when you log into https://account.live.com/names/manage with either account? Do you see the same or different information?
Brian, Thanks for your response - much appreciated. Here's the essence of the problem - I left the States in 2011 and my account with windstream was closed down in 2013 as the wouldn't support me being over here in the UK. It's been sitting there on my Microsoft account for years now and I see it when I log on to the pc but can't access it as I have forgotten the password. The trouble is that I can't reset that with the closed windstream account. I have an account set up under gmx.co.uk, pay my dues to Microsoft, and that's ok except that the windstream one is the first to show and it's this that I want to eliminate.

Under both I am seeing my gmx account but no windstream one.......but when I come to log on to a like site, the windstream log-in boxes will nb
You may also want to check if the old e-mail (user name) has been saved in the Windows Credential Manager (see https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/security/credential-manager-in-windows ) and/or at "Access work or school" in Windows Settings > Accounts.
Stefan - many thanks, this may have worked as I found three sites carrying windstream.net and the passwords, so all deleted and we'll see if this clears the issue......

I can't think of anything else to suggest. There are plenty of people in the forum however, so hopefully someone else will have a suggestion. Sorry I was not able to help.
thanks for trying, Brian - there seems to be no appropriate direct contact connection with Microsoft to resolve this as I would think that one of their gurus could delete my windstream 'connection' in their system.
Are you using a web browser? If so, have you purged all Microsoft cookies from the browser's cache?
I am using Bing or Google Chrome - yes I have tried purging all cookies many times as in using the history button.
You say you can sign into https://account.microsoft.com/ with either - either the Windstream address or the Gmx address. You also say that you can see only the gmx address at https://account.live.com/names/manage no matter which of the two addresses you use. That's just not possible. If you log into https://account.live.com/names/manage with the Windstream address, you must see the Windstream address as one of the aliases. If you didn't, you wouldn't be able to log in with that address.
When you say the Windstream address "has been sitting there" for years. Sitting where? Do you mean that you see the Windstream address when you try to log into Windows? This forum is dedicated to issues with Microsoft 365.
I can only see the gmx account on the names/manage site. The windstream one appears when asking for a sign in when I go to select a site that I may not have used for a while - and I have no idea of the password for this, given its age and that windstream closed the account down years ago, I have no idea where it is in the Microsoft system,
yes, I see the prompt to sign in on using windstream when trying to log into a windows-driven site......
