On the Windows sign-in screen, the password option is looking for the password of the account used to sign in to Windows. If the device is using a Microsoft account, use that Microsoft account password.
After changing a Microsoft account password, Windows 11 may require one successful sign-in with the updated Microsoft account password before Windows Hello PIN or fingerprint works again. Make sure the Dell laptop is connected to the internet, then:
- At the sign-in screen, select Sign-in options.
- Choose the Password option instead of PIN or Windows Hello.
- Enter the updated Microsoft account password.
- If sign-in succeeds, go to Settings > Accounts > Sign-in options and set up the PIN again.
If the password still is not accepted:
- Restart the laptop. A restart can clear temporary sign-in issues.
- Keep the device connected to the internet and try the Password sign-in option again.
- On the sign-in screen, look for I forgot my password or I forgot my PIN to start the reset process.
- If Microsoft account sign-in issues continue, use the Sign-in helper: Sign-in helper
Important supported limitation: Microsoft support cannot retrieve or circumvent a lost or forgotten password, and support agents cannot send password reset links or access and change account details.
