Microsoft 365 features that help users manage their subscriptions, account settings, and billing information.
To identify how many Microsoft accounts exist for email addresses used over the years, check each address individually at the Microsoft account sign-in page.
- Go to the Microsoft account sign-in page at https://account.microsoft.com and enter one email address at a time.
- If the result says "We couldn't find an account with that username" or "That Microsoft account doesn't exist," that address is not currently a Microsoft account.
- If a password prompt appears, that email address is a Microsoft account.
- Repeat this for every old and current email address that may have been used.
Additional places to identify accounts already in use:
- Windows 10/11: Start > Settings > Accounts. Under Email & app accounts, review the usernames associated with the device.
- Office apps: Open Word or Excel, then File > Account. Under Product Information, check Belongs to.
- Email accounts: Search inboxes for Microsoft purchase receipts, subscription messages, or account emails.
- Alternate email addresses: If an alternate address was ever added to the account, try signing in with that as well.
If an old address is no longer active and sign-in cannot be completed, use the Sign-in Helper tool. If the account has not been signed in to for more than two years, it may have been deleted and can no longer be reopened.
