SP list filter grouping choices

I have a SP list with a choices option that can contain multiple selections; legislation - Act; legislation - Regulation; case law - court; case law - administrative; article; privilege; governance etc. When I want to filter by legislation (act and reg, or just one or the other) I can't if there is another choice selected; it shows me all the choices that have been grouped, so one filter could be Governance; legislation - act; evidence and another option is governance; legislation - act

So I can't select just legislation - act to see all the Acts without selecting the instances where there are more than one choice selected. Any thoughts as to why, and how to fix? I thought all my topics should be listed as they are when I choose them, and I can select one to filter.

Hello - hand selected topics do not group in the same way as the CoPilot assigned topics when filtering. And yes, the Settings are as you list above.

    Hi Marnie,

In this case, for a quick workaround, please try with this browser-side fix to narrow down the situation:

    • Open the list in an InPrivate/Incognito window or test another browser.
    • Clear cached site data for: sharepoint.com, office.com, microsoft365.com
    • Temporarily remove any custom JSON formatting from that column and test again.

In the meantime, I will try to reproduce the behavior on my testing environment to see if I can gather more insights about this unexpected behavior.

Should you have any further questions or need additional assistance, please feel free to share them in the comment below. I'm very happy to help.

Thank you again for your patience and understanding. Hope to hear from you soon.
