A Microsoft app for iOS and Android devices that enables authentication with two-factor verification, phone sign-in, and code generation
If Microsoft Authenticator is failing because the phone appears rooted, check the Android device conditions that Authenticator requires for work or school account sign-in and passwordless setup:
- In Android settings, confirm the device requires a PIN or biometric unlock.
- Restart the phone, unlock it with the PIN or biometric, and then try the sign-in again.
- Make sure push notifications are enabled for Microsoft Authenticator and that the phone has network connectivity.
- Make sure Google Play Services and the Google Play Store are installed and enabled.
- In Microsoft Authenticator, open Settings > Device Registration and verify the account is registered and joined for work or school use.
- Check whether the phone is running malware such as a rootkit. A rooted or compromised device can prevent Authenticator from working correctly.
If the sign-in prompt being received was not initiated, select Deny.
If access is still blocked:
- For a personal Microsoft account, use the Sign-in Helper.
- For a work or school account, contact the IT admin.
- If support is needed, use Contact Microsoft Support. Support agents cannot send password reset links or change account details.
