Unauthorised sign in attempts

I have had multiple unauthorised attempts to sign into my Microsoft account. I denied all and have successfully kept them from accessing the account, I then changed my password. Not even an hour later they attempted to sign in again. What else can be done to prevent their attempts? Their sign in locations are different every time, assumedly a VPN in use.

Hi Jed,

Changing your password was the right step. Unfortunately, you cannot stop someone from attempting to sign in if they already know your email address, but you can make those attempts ineffective.

I would enable two-step verification or, even better, make the account passwordless with Microsoft Authenticator. Microsoft recommends passwordless sign-in because a password can no longer be guessed or reused.

Also check Recent activity and mark anything suspicious as “This wasn’t me.” If this is a personal Microsoft account, another useful option is creating a separate alias for sign-in and disabling sign-in for the public email address they are currently targeting

Hey Zoha, thanks for the answer, unfortunately I already have Microsoft Authenticator activated, but the unauthorised person or group still attempts to enter every day. I may end up having to do the seperate alias. Thanks for your time.
