Need help with Authenticator

Microsoft Authenticator can hold multiple accounts, including multiple Microsoft personal accounts, work or school accounts, and other non-Microsoft accounts.

To add the second account on the new iPhone:

1. Open Microsoft Authenticator on the new phone.
2. Tap the plus (+) icon.
3. Choose the account type:
   • Personal account for a Microsoft personal account
   • Work or school account for a business or school account
   • Other account if the service gives a QR code for two-step verification
4. If prompted, scan the QR code shown by the account’s security setup page.
5. If the camera cannot be used, select the option to enter the code manually.

If the second account is a Microsoft personal account, it can also be added from the Microsoft account security page:

1. Sign in to the Microsoft account Security tab at https://account.microsoft.com/security.
2. Select Manage how I sign in.
3. Select Add a new way to sign in or verify.
4. Choose Use an app.
5. In Authenticator, tap + > Personal account > Scan a QR Code.

If this is a work or school account and it was restored from backup, seeing “Sign in to add your account.” is expected. Open that account in Authenticator and sign in again to complete setup.

If the account was on an old iPhone and has not been moved yet, keep the old phone until sign-in works on the new one. For app-based MFA, the old device may still be needed to approve setup on the new device.
