I can't change my site name on the SPO site

When you try to change the site name on the SPO site, you will see "The group classification options have changed. I can't save it.

"The classification options for the group have changed, please choose the appropriate classification." Where should I correct it?

That message indicates the site’s classification value is no longer valid for the connected Microsoft 365 group, so SharePoint blocks saving the site information until a valid classification is selected.

Use this path first:

Open the SharePoint site.
Select Settings > Site information.
In the classification field, choose one of the currently available classifications.
Select Save.

If the site is a team site connected to Microsoft Teams, edit the classification from the corresponding team’s settings in Microsoft Teams. For team-connected sites, the site description or classification is managed from Teams.

If the classification list itself is wrong, missing, or outdated, the correction is at the tenant classification settings level. Those settings can be updated or removed by an administrator by updating the Group.Unified directory setting, for example with Set-AzureADDirectorySetting, or removed with Remove-AzureADDirectorySetting. After changes, it can take an hour or more for the updated settings to appear in the Microsoft 365 UI.

Also verify permissions:

Changing site name and site information requires owner or designer permissions on the SharePoint site.
If Site information is missing or unavailable, the change must be made by the site owner or SharePoint admin.

The message “The classification options for the group have changed. Please choose the appropriate classification” generally indicates that the classification currently assigned to the Microsoft 365 group connected to the SharePoint site is no longer available or does not match the classification options currently configured by your organization.

As a result, SharePoint may prevent the site name from being changed until the connected Microsoft 365 group has a valid classification. Since site classification is configured at the Microsoft 365 group and tenant level, please reach out to your organization’s IT administrator for further assistance.

You may share the following steps with your administrator:

Sign in to the Microsoft 365 admin center.
Go to Teams & groups > Active teams & groups, then locate the Microsoft 365 group connected to the affected SharePoint site.
Copy the group’s Object ID from the group details or from its Overview page in the Microsoft Entra admin center.
Open PowerShell. If Microsoft Graph PowerShell is not already installed, run:
```
   Install-Module Microsoft.Graph -Scope CurrentUser 
```

Connect to Microsoft Graph:

   Connect-MgGraph -Scopes "Group.ReadWrite.All","Directory.Read.All"

Check the group’s current classification:

   Get-MgGroup -GroupId "<GroupObjectID>" -Property "DisplayName,Classification" | 
   Format-List DisplayName,Classification

If the current classification is no longer valid, update it using one of the classification values currently configured for the organization:
```
   Update-MgGroup -GroupId "<GroupObjectID>" -Classification "<ValidClassification>" 
```

Allow some time for the change to synchronize. Then return to the SharePoint site, go to Settings > Site information, and try changing the site name again.

The value entered for <ValidClassification> must exactly match one of the classification values currently permitted by the organization.
