Hello,

I see there is no committed geography defined for our data on office 365. We are also not eligible to purchase the advanced Data residency. We would like to get more info regarding the security of our data on cloud if we are not eligible for ADR.

If a tenant does not have a Durable Commitment on Data Location, its in-scope customer data is not committed to reside in any particular data center. In that case, Microsoft stores the data in a location that enables it to deliver the services effectively, and that storage location can change without notice.

A tenant can have a durable data location commitment only through one of these methods:

    1. Product Terms for supported countries/regions and services
    2. Multi-Geo subscription for supported services and geographies
    3. Advanced Data Residency (ADR) subscription for supported Local Region Geographies

If Mauritius or the Indian Ocean territory is not eligible for ADR and the Data Location Card shows No Commitment, that means there is currently no durable geography commitment for the tenant’s in-scope Microsoft 365 data.

To verify this in the admin experience, the Tenant Global Admin can go to: Microsoft 365 admin center > Admin > Settings > Org settings > Organization profile > Data location

    That page shows:

    • the Current Geography where data is currently stored
    • the Committed Geography, if any

The documented example for a tenant that is not eligible for ADR or Multi-Geo and does not qualify under Product Terms is that the Data Location Card shows the current storage location and “No Commitment” under Committed Geography.
