Accidentally permanently deleted OneDrive files 3–4 hours ago — is server-side recovery possible?

Hello,

I accidentally deleted a large number of files and folders from my personal OneDrive approximately 3–4 hours ago. Unfortunately, I also emptied the OneDrive Recycle Bin before realizing that many of these files were not stored locally on my computer.

I understand that files permanently deleted after emptying the Recycle Bin are normally considered unrecoverable through standard OneDrive recovery.

However, this happened only a few hours ago, so I would like to know whether there is any possible server-side recovery option or whether Microsoft can assist with restoring the deleted files and folders.

I do not have a Microsoft 365 subscription.

The files are not extremely sensitive, but I would really like to recover the folders and files if there is any possible way.

Could someone please confirm whether any recovery option exists in this situation?

Thank you.

    Hello

Only commercial/business accounts have another layer to recover files deleted from recycle bin, based on each organization's retention policy.

However, when it comes to recovering deleted items from Recycle bin, it is not possible and it is considered working as expected. I am sorry. Wish I could bring you happier news.

For a personal OneDrive account without a Microsoft 365 subscription, once files have been deleted from the OneDrive Recycle Bin, they cannot be recovered through standard OneDrive recovery.

    What is still worth checking:

    1. Check the correct OneDrive account on the OneDrive website and confirm the files are not in another Microsoft account.
    2. Check the OneDrive Recycle Bin again.
    3. Check the computer’s local Recycle Bin on Windows or Trash on Mac, but only if the files were deleted from the device. Files deleted from the cloud or online-only files will not appear there.

    What does not apply here:

    • Restore your OneDrive is for Microsoft 365 subscribers and can undo changes from the last 30 days.
    • If a file has been permanently deleted from the OneDrive Recycle Bin, it can never be recovered.

If the files are not in the Recycle Bin and were not stored locally, the context does not provide a supported recovery path for a personal account in this situation.
