Premium Planner Applications Has More Limitations than Basic

I recently had my agency purchase a premium license for the Planner Application so that we could organize our organization's projects into portfolios. After developing several projects on a premium license, it was discovered that any assignments made to employees does not show up in "My Tasks" for premium plans, which is a huge set-back for us. That functionality works for basic plans, but not premium plans. Only premium plans can be put into portfolios, basic plans cannot. We need the portfolio functionality, but we also really need for "My Tasks" to actually populate assignments made in premium plans. It is surprising to see that a higher tier plan that costs more, comes with more limitations than basic plans. When will Microsoft be implementing a fix for this?

    Hi Ruben,

Based on your information, may I confirm whether you are using Microsoft GCC? There are differences in features between a commercial tenant and Microsoft GCC:

    • For commercial Microsoft 365 tenants, Microsoft began rolling out support for Premium-plan tasks in Planner’s My Tasks view in April 2024. Therefore, Premium assignments should generally appear under My Tasks > Assigned to me in a standard commercial tenant.
    • However, for Microsoft 365 Government Community Cloud (GCC), Premium-plan tasks are still not fully supported in the My Tasks view for GCC tenants. Also, Microsoft’s Government feature-comparison page Planner for Microsoft 365 US Government | Microsoft Support shows several Planner assignment and notification capabilities as TBD for government environments.

That said, I want to first confirm whether you are using a Microsoft GCC so I can provide appropriate guidance/information for your case.

Should you have any further questions or need additional assistance, please feel free to share them in the comment below. I'm very happy to help.

Thank you for your patience and understanding. Hope to hear from you soon.
